The Requiem in D minor, K. 626, is a requiem mass by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791). Mozart composed part of the Requiem in Vienna in late 1791, but it was unfinished at his death on 5 December the same year. This 1989 live recording of the Requiem is a steamy variant of the latter. Its claim to fame is that it’s more funereal, if not cadaverous, than Böhm’s K 626 from 1971 – what a feat! By the time the Requiem Aeternam crawls to a close, one is ready to evict the poor bugger from the coffin and seal the lid from the inside.
